Starting chessboxing

How to start chessboxing

Chessboxing requires a foundation in both chess and boxing. Start with the two disciplines, then tell Chessboxing Czechia about your experience and location. The organiser will explain the current options.

Chess

Learn to play with a clock.

You need the rules of chess, basic tactics and experience with a fast time control. The chessboxing rules page explains how the clock fits into a bout.

Boxing

Train with a boxing coach.

Learn stance, movement, defence and punches at a boxing club. Do not attempt contact training without qualified supervision and suitable protective equipment.

Chessboxing

Combine the disciplines gradually.

Before competing, you need to manage the switch between physical exertion and decisions at the chessboard. The organiser and event format determine the specific conditions.

Before you get in touch

Include three details.

Say which city you are based in, what experience you have in chess and boxing, and whether you want to try the sport or are interested in preparing to compete.

Options vary by location, experience and upcoming events, so the organiser responds according to the current situation.
