Planned opening period
Inside a CBX gala
The board is inside the ring.
The same opponents meet over the board and with gloves on. Watch bouts from our first gala and explore the two events that brought Czech chessboxing to Kralupy and Prague.
How it works
One bout. Two disciplines.
- ChessTwo opponents, a board and a chess clock.
- BoxingThe same opponents put on their gloves for the next round.
- Back to chessThey return to the same position. The game continues.
A bout can end at the board or in the ring — by checkmate, running out of time, knockout or resignation. The number and length of rounds depend on the format.

Your first chessboxing evening?
What should I follow during a bout?
The board and ring are two parts of the same contest. The chess position carries over between rounds, and the bout can be decided in either discipline. Our spectator guide explains the main ways to win. Read the rules →
